A little story back in time
Colin spends even more time out in the trails on his mountain bike (after his best friend's passing) than on his road steed. Traffic hasn't been as friendly as before but attitudes, awareness and education has started to change all that. More signs are up, more non racing events has help to turn Singapore from a 3rd world cycle death trap (check out the stats!!) to potentially a first world cycle friendly nation (long way more).
Its 2011 and we found termites has devoured many of our beloved racing and podium pictures of the early 80s and 90s. It will get posted up if we can savage whats left of it for posterities.
Colin and Melvin Koh both began racing in their early teens(from different eras though, early 80s and Mel in the late 80s) for the most successful cycling team at the time the Geylang Cycling Club, with sucesses in national and International arena. Melvin was to later went on to pursue his interest in religion and animals. It was in 1994 they came together wanting to make an impact on the racing scene with mid to high end range of bikes and were cleanly knocked off the pedestal of high ideas and new retail concepts. Many new (at its time)safety features and new technology materials, apparels and components were to fall on deaf ears of early consumers which is the standards nowasdays.
We obviously are still far from getting this country bicycle friendly. On Jan 3rd 2011, we lost a dear friend to a truck driver who was speeding along Changi Coast Road. Edwin Chua was 45 years old when he widowed Mary leaving behind 2 lovely young children. It was one of those things you knew that he shouldn't have ridden on a Monday morning. More about that in details in other sections.
